Forensic Testing ProcessGenetic Technologies complies with strict forensic standards throughout the entire testing process. Sample SubmissionYou can consult with our forensic staff regarding a specific case before you submit samples for testing. Samples can be hand delivered to the laboratory or sent by courier. Samples must be accompanied by a chain of custody form and must be sent in separate sealed bags or containers. Sample ScreeningOur forensic scientists will inspect the samples received while maintaining strict chain of custody procedures. During examination of the samples, our experienced scientists use visual inspection and screening tests to locate the presence of biological stains for DNA analysis. DNA AnalysisIf there is sufficient DNA present on the sample, a genetic profile will be generated. Depending on the nature of the case, dog, horse, goat, sheep, alpaca or human DNA markers can be used for DNA analysis. Results InterpretationThe forensic report describes the items received and results of any analysis. DNA results may be summarised in a table format. Conclusions based on the DNA testing results are reported and for canine DNA cases, population genetic statistics (which indicate how common or rare the canine DNA profile is in the population) may be stated in the report. Our forensic scientists are available to discuss and explain the interpretation of results as needed by the client. |
