Implantation
As our aim at Frozen Puppies is to maximise chances of successful conception, we favour the surgical implant of frozen semen, as it is well recognised that the surgical implant method is the most successful. In the event that a dog’s semen is less than optimal quality, fresh semen will be used. The procedure is simple, effective and takes only 40 minutes - 20 minutes for the insemination and 20 minutes for recovery.
AI Procedures
The following are Frozen Puppies preferred options for AI, dependent on semen type:
Fresh Semen
- Vaginal AI – Collect fresh semen and AI at time of collection.
- Surgical AI – Collect fresh semen and surgical inseminate at time of collection.
Chilled Semen
- Vaginal AI – Fresh semen collected, chilled for transport and AI.
Frozen Semen
- Surgical AI
The correct timing for insemination is vital for success, whereas many AI companies rely on breed averages for calculating a brood bitches cycle; Frozen Puppies have developed advanced procedures based, entirely, on the individual bitch. Therefore, maximising the chances of a successful insemination.
The implant facilities are supervised by Dr John Newell and consist of fully monitored surgical suites; stainless steel recovery cages and post thaw LCD screen assessment prior to implantation. This Veterinary Surgeons Board Accredited facility is now available to the Show dog world to assist with the monitoring preparation and implantation of frozen semen.
